But the experience of David speaks to us about the rest and the comfort God gave him when he was running through the desert for fear of his enemies. David was running for life because King Saul and the enemies of Israel were following him. He was opposed because of jealousy and competition. David was found a moral and graceful threat to those around him. They couldn’t appreciate the way God was using him as a blessing to others. They didn’t understand that he was part of God’s plan for them and their country. He had already saved God’s people from the enemy countries and the threat of Goliath. But without any valid reason, he was chased by all who became his enemies. David was forced to stay in forests, caves and even in deserts to escape the attacks of the enemy. He had his share of despair and fear. But in times of trouble and apprehension, David trusted in the God of Israel who spread His wings over David and gave him courage, faith and confidence to keep going. David had to overcome opposition by faith and trust in the Lord each and every moment of his days of isolation and fear. He could go to the presence of God even while he was in the desert. He could enjoy peace and rest in a desert which was the greatest blessing he enjoyed during those days of turmoil. Under the shadow of the wings of the Lord, David enjoyed spiritual blessings which were sufficient to strengthen him to handle all his unfavourable circumstances. The God of David is alive today and He will sustain all His children who go through deserts in their lives under His wings of protection, provision and peace.

Dear friend, are you going through the heat and the roasted sandy storms of a desert in your life? Are you fearfully running for life when you are chased by the enemy of your soul by using people who are close to you? If you are loosing confidence in life, you are reminded by the Lord today that even in the desert, you have the wings of the Lord above you. His wings are your shelter of love, peace and power. His wings give you a cover from the enemies and enhance your confidence, peace and rest. All your weariness in life will be taken away by the coolness of the shadow of the wings of the Lord. Under His wings, you will find solace for your heart near to the heart of God. He will keep your heart from fear and anxiety. He will fill you with His love and peace and will carry your cares and burdens. He will keep you under His wings until He changes your situation. One of these days, He will subdue all your enemies under His feet as in the case of David. You will enjoy His deliverance as in the case of Daniel, Gideon and Joshua. His wings of protection will be upon you as it was for Jeremiah, Peter, Paul and other disciples. You are guaranteed a comforting sojourn through the wilderness because you will be always under the wings of the Almighty. You can cast all your cares upon Him and relax. Today you are reassured by the Lord to make you dwell under His wings with spiritual nourishment, emotional fulfillment and physical protection. It is a life of faith and fellowship with the Lord your God even when the whole world challenges your faith and the power of God over you.

Psalms 91:4 – He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

Thought for Today

The desert experience is worth the trouble when considering it as an opportunity to enjoy the cool shadow under the wings of the Lord.

For further spiritual help and prayer support, contact: todayintheword@gmail.com

In times of fierce attacks from the enemy, we often find ourselves in tight situations when there is no one else to sympathize with us or listen to us. There are times when whatever we do for the Lord will be misinterpreted and misunderstood. Our burdens and concerns for the Lord are often seen differently. The enemy will use people to undervalue all that we stand for and struggle in. The enemy knows that the best way to stop us from doing what we do for the Lord is to use people to attack us and our motives. The Israeli people saw the capabilities of David in facing and killing Goliath. Instead of using his skills, grace and commitment to God for destroying the many more Anakites who lived in the land, efforts were used to annihilate David. He should have been the commander-in-chief of the army of Israel, but he had to run away and live in caves and in enemy territory with fear in his heart. There was no one to comfort and strengthen him. David realized that he was engaged in spiritual warfare, and he kept committing himself to the Lord. He realized that the best course of action was to keep silent and wait for the Lord to act. In his moments of fearful solitude, David communed with the Lord and talked with Him in prayerful songs. David knew that he could put all his hope in the Lord and wait for the Lord to act at the right time to deliver him. David found peace in the presence of the Lord. He knew that when he was under attack by the fierce enemy, it was best to keep on suffering in silence.

Dear reader, are you being tossed around by the enemy of your soul and being pushed into situations which are difficult to handle? Is the enemy buffeting you with accusations and misinterpretations of all your behavior? But the Lord wants you to know that all His children who served Him faced similar situations. Joseph, Moses, David, Nehemiah, Jeremiah, Daniel and Paul had to go through sever attacks from the enemy who wanted to dilute their ministries. The enemy tried to stop them through multifarious strategies. But all of them kept silent and waited for the Lord to smooth their pathways of service to the Lord. The enemy wanted to frustrate them out of the service they were rending unto the Lord. His strategy was to upset the purpose of God through His servants by leveling arguments against them and undervalue their mission. All of them learnt that it was best to remain quiet, commune with the Lord and put all their hope in the Lord and His power. Today David shares his experience with us that when we remain quiet and put all our hope in the Lord, He will still use us to accomplish His purpose in this world. When our circumstances silence us, we would still be able to speak to the Lord in prayer. No one will be able to take away our freedom to convert our solitude to singing sessions. Even our groaning will be registered as our heart cry before our Lord who will act at the right time to turn the darkness around us to bright light.

Psalms 62:1 – My soul waits in silence for God only; from Him is my salvation.

Thought for Today

When the circumstances tame our tongues to be silent, we can still speak and sing to the Lord in our solitude.

For further spiritual help and prayer support, contact: todayintheword@gmail.com

They come at totally unexpected times. No one expects that a mighty wind of opposition, conflict, failure or loss to blow against us when Jesus is with us. The target of the wind is the reputation of Jesus and the peace of His children. The enemy of our souls wants to create evidence to frustrate us and weaken our faith by proving that it is no use being with Jesus. The enemy tries to weaken our faith by showing us that our life with Jesus is no guaranteeing that there will be no wind or wave. He uses circumstances and situations to create doubts and confusion in our minds. Our enemy wants us to be grumbling people rather than a people of praise and joy. We are made to wonder why we have troubles when Jesus is with us. We tend to become afraid of our situations and expect the worst scenario to emerge in our lives. Doubt begets unbelief and it will lead to fear and hopelessness. At such times, we must learn to look at Jesus who is with us rather than focus on the waves and the wind which blow against us. We must also realize that the waves on the outside cause waves of fear, anxiety, doubt, confusion and despair on the inside. These unexpected challenges tempt us at times to complain to Jesus that we are perishing. We must realize that nothing will happen to us without the knowledge of the Lord. He is with us to prevent us from perishing. He is our co-passenger on our boats of life to take us to the other side of the lake of life. His presence guarantees our safe passage through the winds and the waves.

Dear reader, are you going through a great testing time in your life when mighty winds, strong waves and powerful mass of water blow fiercely against you? Is the very sight of the roaring of the sea of life sufficient to make you fearful and loose confidence? Are you being shaken in your faith and are you groaning with a trembling heart? Today Jesus wants to ask you as to how you can be afraid when you know that Jesus is with you in your boat? Your situation shows you that you are unable to handle it yourself. Your strength, capacity, expertise or knowledge is often insufficient to weather way the winds which blow against you. So your faith ought to wake up to the reality that it is best to tell the Lord Jesus about it and leave it at His feet. Our faith demands that we leave all our fears with Jesus and ask Him to handle it. Our trust in the Lord must take us with all our problems to the feet of Jesus and leave it there for Him to straighten it out. Our plea for help is the open confession of our inability to handle our situations. It is also our declaration of His mighty power to save us from our predicaments. As we go through the storms, we might loose hope and wonder why it has come our way. But our Lord wants us to learn that it is part of His plan to teach us faith and trust in Him. He knows what He will do and knows when to do it to save us. But He starts to work when we reach our wits end. When we are helpless, He becomes our help and His words become mightier than any storms which blow against us. He also wants to demonstrate to us that the storms and the wind that He created will obey His command. Our Lord will not allow the winds which are His servants to hurt and destroy His beloved children. So let us wait for Him to interfere in our troublesome, miserable, fearful, painful and apprehensive situations and bring peace, stability and joy.

Psalms 107:29 – He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.

Thought for Today

Storms and waves come and go, but God’s children are sustained through it by Him.

For further spiritual help and prayer support, contact:todayintheword@gmail.com

He comes at the right time to turn the elements off so that they would not any longer be a hindrance for God to accomplish His plan in our lives. The flood and the thunderstorm are most difficult to endure. But it is also a time for God’s children to enjoy His grace. His hands are upon His children even when they float around. There are times when we wonder whether we will ever get out of our painful and difficult situations. But our Lord has planned all events according to His wisdom. He has an eternal plan to glorify His name through our experience of weariness or welfare. He will accomplish what He has planned for us. When the flood is an ordeal for the wicked, it is a time for us to enjoy His provision and protection which lead us to His praise from our lips and hearts. When one event in our lives comes to an end, our Lord gives us newer opportunities in a newer environment for newer blessings. Our Lord will not allow us to undergo flood and thunderstorm all the time. He changes our environment and gives us a new phase in our lives with newer objectives and programs. Whether we are shut in an ark or out in the field, our Lord fills our lives with His plans which He accomplishes in and through us. He will not allow us to go through the experiences of flood all the time and will bring it to a close. But whether there is flood or dry land, it is the hand of the Lord which led us forward. When we are up in the heights of flood and on rough land, it is He who meets our needs and protects us. We are safe only to the extent to which He keeps us safe.

Dear reader, are you experiencing a time of flood and rain in your life lately? Do you feel isolated and kept far away in some unknown and unstable sphere in life? Are you groping for direction and counsel about how to go forward in life? Remember, the hand of the Lord which leads you through the flood will also lead you when the flood is over. He knows when the flood must stop, and before it ends He teaches you to how to trust Him. He proves to you that He can be trusted in all circumstances and situations. His hand is upon you when the situation is volatile in some isolated corner of the world. His grace is poured out in your present circumstances to sustain you. He remembers His dear children when they go through experiences flood, fire and other unfavourable circumstances. His purpose in sending us through the flood is to help us to learn to depend on Him for grace when the going gets tough. This was how the Lord led Noah and his family during trying times. They had very tough spiritual situation when they lived in a wicked world, and also when they were in the ark in the flood waters. But in both these situations, it was the Lord who sustained His children. The same Lord is with us today in all our situations to give us strength, faith and trust to hold on to the promises of God. He gives us courage to face our existing tough situation or the upcoming unfamiliar situations. He goes before us in the flood as well as on the new dry ground and challenges us to go with Him to experience His leading and guidance. It is a time of adventures of faith with Him each day in all our circumstances. Today is another day for us to enjoy His grace by faith in our new situations. Today we can hide in the Lord whether it is flood, ark or dry ground and enjoy His favour.

Psalms 32:7 – You are my hiding-place; You will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.

Thought for Today

Faith takes us through experiences of flood or fire as we travel with the Lord who knows when to turn the waters or fire off from our situations.

For further spiritual help and prayer support, contact: todayintheword@gmail.com

In a sinful environment in which we live, especially among a set of ungodly people who pose challenges about our faith, it makes us sad in our soul. As we watch how the enemy captures even our friends and the household of faith, we feel lonely and depressed. When the spirit of iniquity spreads its value system even among God’s people and turns our friends into foes of faith, it hurts our hearts and sags our spirits. How our environment quickly gives way to ungodly and unspiritual would make us despair and dispirited. When we have pain because of the poison of sin which permeates into our families, communities and churches, we are appalled about the lack of sensitivity among our close associates in the household of faith. The sons of Korah went through such a state of affairs and felt discouraged and disillusioned. They had no answers to give to their ungodly generations and felt inadequate to meet the challenges. They were spiritually exasperated and were in a pensive mood. The only place of consolation they found was the presence of God. They were sensitive and they had a thirst for God and His matters. They were exercised to run into the presence of God for relief, deliverance and hope.

Dear reader, perhaps you are going through a time of despair because of the surge of iniquity that is growing fast all around. When you are disillusioned about your environment, there is always a place to run into which is the presence of God. It is there that you can drink from the stream of divine truth to strengthen your sagging spirit. It is there that you can find answers to the questions which loom large in your heart about your own inadequacy to cope with the spiritual warfare you are engaged in. It is there that you will find comfort, consolation and strength to withstand the pressures of the ungodly that are around you. It is there that you will find a pitcher of divine water and a loaf of divine bread to strengthen your soul as in the case of Prophet Elijah. It is there that you will find broiled fish and bread on charcoal to satiate your sagging spirit as in the case of Simon Peter. Your Lord is out there to serve you with heavenly manna prepared by His own hands. He has enough spiritual water to quench your thirst for God and His Spirit in His presence. The water of life that He gives will take away the toxic thoughts and feelings you might develop because of the sinfulness of your environment. You will then be able to stand strong and answer your detractors boldly about the Lord and His Word. When the ungodly challenge your faith, your Lord will give you the holy boldness to stand strong on the sure Word of God to answer them about the faithfulness and power of your God. You will then be able to praise Him for His grace shown to you in your adverse circumstance. Prophet Elijah had to stand alone in his generation and minister to the people when other prophets were in the hiding. Prophet Elisha was given the boldness to handle his environment through the power of the Spirit of God. The baptizer spoke powerfully to his generation about the need to show forth the fruit of repentance even by risking his life. Today we have the privilege of living and loving the truths which are given to us as a buffer against the challenges and intimidation posed to us by the world and its system supporters.

Psalms 118:5 – From my distress I called upon the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me in a large place.

Thought for Today

The Lord transforms our distress into trust in His mighty power for our deliverance.

For further spiritual help and prayer support, contact: todayintheword@gmail.com

We may not express our emotions to those around us because often they are unable to understand our anguishes and agonies. Some of our associates might only find fault with us and attribute all our distress to our failures and weaknesses. There are times when most people would not understand our innocence and the transparency of our motives. Under such circumstances, the enemy of our soul will take extra efforts to cast doubts in the minds of others about our righteousness. But in all such circumstances, the Lord becomes our righteousness. He also understands the depth our distress. During our moments of pain and misery, we have the blessed privilege to seek after the face of our Lord to enjoy His grace and mercy which will give us a release from our distress and anguish. He will not reject us in our saddest moments of pain and isolation, but will come to strengthen us. He will help us to lean on to His shoulders to find comfort and strength. Even when the whole world rejects us, our Lord will not keep away from us. He will be a great friend, counselor and mentor to us and will give us His answers to weather away these storms. His Word will be our lamp to keep going when the way becomes rough. He will hold us like a mother comforts her little baby. He will wipe our tears and cuddle us in His hands. He will enable us to cast all our burdens on Him. He will not reject us nor forsake us in trying and lonely times. He will give us the grace to handle our situations in His love. When we are misunderstood by all around, He would robe us with His righteousness. He will help us to ease our minds from our distressing situations. He hears our heart cry and will answer us in due time.

Dear reader, are you distressed today because of the misunderstanding the enemy tries to create in the minds of people? Are you being unfairly criticized and are your words being wrongly interpreted? Is your patience being tested by trying circumstances? Remember, the enemy of our soul will sow the seeds of bitterness in the minds of our dear ones and allow it to grow and become like a tree. He is smart in making these bitter trees fruit hatred, despising, humiliation, discontent and competition. He knows how to use it all to take away our peace and rest. When our kith and kin forsake you, our Lord will come to comfort, protect and lead you as He led Joseph. When colleagues try to catch us unaware, He will come to close the mouths of lions and keep us safe overnight in the lion’s dens. When you are thrown into the fire of misunderstanding and misinterpretation as in the case of the Hebrew Youth in Babylon, He will come to keep you company and protect you by His presence. When you cry out loud to the Lord, He will listen to your cries and see your tears. His hands will wipe your tears. He will be with you as He was with Paul when the believers in Rome resented him and when his dearest associates left him alone in the prison. Today He reassures you that He will be with you every moment of your life throughout your journey.

Psalms 48:14 – For this God is our God for ever and ever; He will be our guide even to the end.

Thought for Today

Our God hears our prayers and transforms our distress in the weary land to an oasis of joy and peace.

For further spiritual help and prayer support, contact: todayintheword@gmail.com

We are attacked by the enemy through situations he manipulates. We are intimidated by the enemy through broken relationships, sharp words and painful body language which shatter us and vaporize our emotional energies. He spreads misunderstandings about us and makes others misinterpret our motives. He makes his agents misrepresent us with the cruel intention of shattering our peace and rest. The wounds which are inflicted upon us cause deep agony and suffocation. These wounds bleed and get infected and take a very long time to heal. The world only adds insult to our injuries rather than sooth it to heal. The World’s medicines only give symptomatic relief with no lasting cure because its medicines lack the capacity to heal the deep wounds and absorb pain. Often the world comes to give us easy ways out of our pain and misery through substance abuse, humor and entertainment which are only impossible escapism. But our Lord Jesus Christ comes to heal our wounds and make us whole again. He puts all the pieces of our broken hearts together and transforms us to streams of joy and peace. He pours oil and wine on our wounds and applies the Balm of Gilead for complete and lasting cure. His medicines include forgiveness to those who injure us, prayer for the oppressors and cries to our Lord for healing. He will then fill our hearts with His Spirit who is the Spirit of joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness and love. He comes to bind our wounds and blows His breeze of love and compassion on it. He revives our depressed hearts with His Word and gives new hope to our sagging spirits.

Dear reader, are you a wounded soul today? Is there a deep wound in your heart which needs dressing, balm and bandaging? Are you shedding tears of pain and frustration because of the wounds the enemy inflicted in you through others? When you cry out of pain and misery because of the deep wounds in your heart, your Lord will come near you and touch your wounds with His nail-pierced hands. His very touch at your sore spots will sooth your wounds and put all your broken pieces together to make you whole again. He will show you the marks of the wounds which He bears in His body which the world inflicted on Him. He will teach you how to respond to the cruel way the world treats you. When He was cruelly attacked by the world, He kept quiet and suffered without any resistance. When the people around inflicted deep wounds in the hearts of Daniel and Jeremiah, they submitted all their pains to the Lord. When Joseph’s heart was deeply wounded because of the treachery and hatred demonstrated by his brothers and the family of Potiphar, he took all his pain to the Lord. When David was hunted after and left deeply wounded in his heart by his father-in-law, he cried out to the Lord in the darkest of his nights in forests, caves and hillside and remained in the Lord’s presence. He was so moved in his pain as to cry out to the Father as to why he was seemingly forgotten? Paul had so much of bitter experiences in his ministry, especially from the household of faith, but the Lord saw his tears and heard his prayers and healed his wounds. Our Lord is near to all who are of a broken heart with deep wounds. But when we cry unto Him, He comes to us and applies the Balm of Gilead to heal our wounds. He binds our wounds and takes special care to give us full healing. He imparts peace in our hearts and makes us whole again. Today His healing touch is available to us if we are willing to go to Him who is the Great Physician and confess our pain and agony to Him.

Psalms 107:20 - He sent His Word and healed them and delivered them from their destruction.

Thought for Today

If we wrap our broken hearts in the rags of our lives and lay at Jesus’ feet, He will transform it into a stream of joy and peace.

For further spiritual help and prayer support, contact: todayintheword@gmail.com

It drains us of our patience and energy. It takes away our peace and challenges our joy in the Lord. It shakes our faith and trust in the Lord. Sometimes doubt creeps in our minds about our deliverance. It overwhelms us and overtakes us in fear and anxiety. It reduces our ability to withstand the pressures of situations. It also affects our bodies and minds and causes infirmities. Often a series of troubles come together to squeeze us from all corners and make it difficult for us to handle it. Slowly we fall a prey to pressure and stumble in our faith. Troubles have a bewildering face and they cause us to develop anxiety about its consequences in our lives. But we must understand that troubles are a part of the grand strategy of the enemy of our soul to weaken our faith. God would not cause us trouble, but when troubles come our way, He makes it a venue to teach us valuable lessons in faith and trust. At the same time, He comes to revive our sagging spirits so that we would not sink deep in trouble. When the enemy pours his wrath on us, the Lord covers us under His powerful arms. We will be protected under the shadow of His wings. He will keep us from all harm from the enemy. His hands of comfort, love and fellowship will be around us. He knows when troubles come and so He goes before us to pave the way for us to go forward.

Dear reader, are you going through severe troubles in your life lately? Are these experiences draining you off your spiritual energy? Is the multiplicity of troubles causing fear in you? Today the Lord wants to tell you that He knows all about your troubles. He knew about it even before it started. He has taken all measures necessary so that it would not cause any harm to you. But our Lord will use these troubles to teach you to trust Him more intensely. He will not allow your feet to shake because of these troubles. The Lord wants to increase your faith to trust Him to keep you safe and secure during these troublesome times. When Paul went through trouble, He appeared in person to comfort him. When Peter was in trouble, our Lord sent His angel to release him out of the prison. He gave Peter the peace that passes understanding in the wake of his proposed execution by Herod. When Elijah was in trouble, the Lord sent an angel with food and water along with new ministry for him at Horeb. When David was in trouble, our Lord gave him songs in the night in a cave. He was with the Hebrew youth in fire and with Daniel in lion’s den. He was with His disciples in the stormy weather. He converted Joseph’s prison into a prism through which he could experience the glory of God. The same Lord is with you in power and majesty as your protector, provider and peace. His hands are stretched out to save you from your present predicaments. He will overshadow you with His glory so that the wraths of the enemy will not fall on you. Nothing untoward will happen to you. Don't you be tempted to believe the lies of the enemy that there is no hope for you! That was what the friends of Job tried to tell him. But at the end, they were proved wrong and the Lord showed every one around that there was nothing impossible with Him. The same Lord lives for us today. Not even an iota of His power and strength has eroded. All you have to do is to renew your trust in Him. Even at the fourth watch, when every thing looks so hopeless and bleak, the Lord will come around and rescue you.

Psalms 138:3 - On the day I called, You (the Lord) answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul.

Thought for Today

No trouble will ever overpower the hand of our Lord which protects us.

For further spiritual help and prayer support, without cost or obligation,

contact: todayintheword@gmail.com
