Detailed Notes:

BEHOLD THE LORD JESUS

We live in a visual age, a day where millions are watching TV programs, youtube videos, and beholding with their eyes as never before.

Much of what is watched will never edify or even be remembered weeks later. Of all the hundreds of soaps and serials they watch, little can be remembered of any plot or story.

We want you to have a life-changing look today.

God wants us to behold the Lord Jesus His beloved Son. God wants all to know who He is and put their trust in Him as Saviour and Lord.

To behold Him by faith is the most important thing you can do.

1. The Man

“Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!” (John 19:5)

Here we behold the stoop the Son of God took when He became the Saviour of the world.

He became Man in every way sin apart.

Hebrews 2 gives us three reasons why the Son of God became the Son of Man.

He came to restore Creation

The universe was not put in subject to angels who are much greater than man but dominion was given to man. The Lord Jesus became man so that He could be the head of all creation.

“For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.” (Hebrews 2:5)

He came to defeat the Devil

“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.” (Hebrews 2:14)

He came to be a merciful High Priest

“For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.” (Hebrews 2:18)

Never a man was born like this Man

Never a man lived like this Man

Never a man spake like this Man

Never a man died like this Man

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:5)

2. THE SERVANT

“Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.” (Matthew 12:18)

The Lord Jesus was the perfect Servant of God. He never sinned, He always obeyed.

He was tested and found pure.

The Bible says that not just 25000 of us but ALL of us have failed.

Romans 3:23

There is only ONE who never failed and could not fail. He is the sinless Saviour. He was obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

3. The Lamb

“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29)

In order to create the world, the Lord Jesus only had to speak and a 100 billion galaxies came into being but to redeem man He could not speak but remain silent and suffer as a lamb.

He is the lamb without blemish and without spot.

Without the shedding of blood, there could be no remission of sin so the Lord Jesus willing shed His blood.

“And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.” (Hebrews 9:22)

“… It is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.” (Leviticus 17:11)

A survivor of the shopping centre massacre in Kenya’s capital says she owes her life to a teenage boy who died beside her. Sneha Mashru smeared herself in another person’s blood to fool the gunmen.

4. The King

“And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!” (John 19:14)

Not only is the Lord Jesus the Lamb, He is also the King of kings and Lord of lords.

When Pilate said these words, they replied with … “Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.” (John 19:15)

At present He is despised and rejected of men but He is coming to reign in glory and power.

“That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.” (1 Timothy 6:14-16)

In July 1990, two young girls who small sailboat capsized in the Mediterranean were rescued by a man on a boat who saw their plight. He dived in fully clothed and saved them. To their surprise it was their King Juan Carlos himself. The King (aged 52) was aboard a rubber boat returning after training for a yacht race and surprised his security guards and those accompanying him by plunging into the drink when he saw their boat overturn in heavy winds.

After helping the two girls, identified as two Spanish sisters, get aboard his boat, the king took them to port and also towed their boat. Naval authorities on the island sent the king a message of thanks.

5. The Lion

“And one of the elder’s saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.” (Revelation 5:5)

When the day of grace has ended, then the Day of the Lord will begin when He shall rouse Himself as a lion in all His might.

He has purchased this world and will use His might to open the seals which commence judgments upon this world.

The scroll is the title deed to the universe and only the Lord Jesus is worthy to open it and take control of this world.
