Feasts of Passover
Posted here is the sermon delivered by Br. Amis Lopes at Assembly Bible Classes between 23rd April to 29th April.
Passage of Reference: Lev 23.5
Passover was the most important feast for Israel. This is the only feast which is mentioned for maximum times in OT (48 times) and NT (28 times). The Hebrew word for Passover is Pesah. Exodus tells that God helped the children of Israel escape from their slavery in Egypt by bringing ten plaques upon the Egyptians. The Israelplaguesre instructed to mark the doorposts of their homes with the blood of a slaughtered lamb. Upon seeing this, the spirit of the Lord knew to pass over (or skip) the houses of the Hebrews. Passover was the celebration of freedom from the Egyptian bondage. They were asked to remember this great incident and celebrate this feast every year
In this Passover feast, lamb is at the center. Everything revolves around the Passover lamb. Passover lamb should be male lamb, he should be of one year, he should be without blemish, he should be kept for four days, he should be killed on 14th day in the evening, his blood should be spread on the door posts, his flesh should be roasted and eaten, his bone should not be broken.
Four instructions were given about the Passover lamb
- Selection of the lamb (Verse 3-6)
- Slaying of the lamb (Verse 6)
- Spreading the blood of the lamb (Verse 7)
- Savoring (eating) the flesh of the lamb (Verse 8-11)
The Plan of eating (Exo 12.8)
The Particulars of eating (Exo 12.9)
The Pattern of eating (Exo 12.10)
The Procedure of eating (Exo 12.11)
The Place of eating (Exo 12.46)
The Principles of eating (Exo 12.46)
The Participants in eating (Exo 12.47)
Who is this Passover lamb in the real sense? The Passover lamb is none other than Lord Jesus Christ (1 Cor 5.7) Throughout the OT many lambs were killed for many people, but in the NT Lord Jesus was killed (died) once for the entire humanity
