Cleansing and Comforting Hands!
Verse for Today: Thursday, September 05, 2013
John 13:5 – After that, Jesus poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that wrapped round Him.
Feet speak of the walk we undertake in life and the resultant exposure to our environment. Feet also tell us about the weariness as we walk through this sandy and hot world. So feet need cleansing and comfort. But feet get properly cared for when a committed expert washes and dries it with utmost concern. The water used for washing, along with its temperature is of utmost importance to guarantee proper cleansing and comfort. If it is not dried soon after washing, it gets cold. If we walk before it is dried, it would attract more dirt. The Lord Jesus had all these concerns when He came forward to voluntarily wash the feet of His disciples. It showed His love and concern about even their feet and their whole lives. He also demonstrated His willingness to serve them and set an example for them to wash each others’ feet. Jesus watches our feet, our walk and lives to see whether and when we need a washing by His holy hands. He comes to cleanse us of the besetting sins in our lives and all that entangles us to the world. But He doesn’t find fault with us. He comes voluntarily to us today to give us His comfort and coolness. He does it with utmost care and concern and even dries it with a towel. He uses the most comforting water to wash our feet. His comforting, creative and healing hands touch our feet to make it comely and congenial. Our Jesus is concerned not only with our hearts and minds, but even about our feet and our walk. He wants us to walk circumspectly. He desires to take away all discomfort and weariness from our feet so that we can follow Him with vigor and vitality. His touch of our feet with humility transforms our lives to see His glory and to walk after Him.
Dear friend, are you weary of the long, rough and dusty walk through this wilderness? Are your feet tired, hurting and dirty with sweat and sand? Do you really desire to rest your feet for a while? Jesus of Nazareth comes to you today to wash your feet and make you clean and comfortable. He is willing to touch and heal the aches and pains that you endure because of the long walk through the dark alleys and dusty pathways of this weary land. He has the most comforting water with Him and His own hands will scrub and cleanse you thoroughly. He will wipe your feet dry and make it ready for you to continue to walk after Him. He will not use boiled water to burn your feet, nor will He use ice water to make your feet freeze. He is much concerned about your comfort and healing. You have miles to go on His pathways and so He comes to strengthen your feet. He also shows you how to wash others’ feet so that you can take it as a ministry on His behalf. There are many in the world that slow down or stop walking because of hurting and weary feet. You need to go to them and help them to walk by washing and drying their feet. It demands preparation for washing by using His amenities and willingness to bend down to wash others. Let us today go to Jesus and get our feet washed with His Word. Let us enjoy His ministry of washing us and turn around to wash other feet in His power and strength.
Psalms 66:9 – God has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping.
